Plagiarism Policy
Plagiarism Policy
The Editorial Board of JTPG (Jurnal Teknologi Pertanian Gorontalo) recognizes that plagiarism is unacceptable and is committed to maintaining the originality and integrity of all manuscripts submitted for publication. This policy defines the actions and penalties that may be applied when plagiarism is identified in a submitted or published article.
Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism refers to the use or close imitation of the language, ideas, data, figures, or intellectual work of another author and presenting them as one's own original work without appropriate acknowledgement or citation.
General Policy
- Submitted manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
- Any text taken directly from another source must be clearly identified using quotation marks, indentation where appropriate, and proper citation of the original source.
- Reproduction of substantial text, figures, tables, or other copyrighted material may require permission from the copyright holder and appropriate acknowledgement of the original publication.
- All authors are responsible for ensuring that the submitted manuscript complies with this plagiarism policy.
Similarity Screening
All submitted manuscripts may be screened using similarity-detection software such as Turnitin and/or iThenticate. The maximum acceptable similarity index is 25%.
If the similarity index exceeds 25%, the manuscript may be returned to the authors for correction before further editorial processing. The Editorial Board may also conduct additional evaluation of the similarity report to determine whether plagiarism is present.
Levels of Plagiarism and Editorial Actions
| Level | Description | Editorial Action |
|---|---|---|
| Minor | A short section of another publication is reproduced without proper citation, without involving significant data, results, or ideas. | The authors will be warned and requested to revise the text and properly cite the original source. |
| Intermediate | A significant portion of the manuscript is reproduced without proper citation of the original source. | The manuscript will be rejected, and the authors may be prohibited from submitting new manuscripts to JTPG for one (1) year. |
| Severe | A substantial portion of the manuscript reproduces original results, data, ideas, figures, or other significant content from another publication. | The manuscript will be rejected, and the authors may be prohibited from submitting new manuscripts to JTPG for five (5) years. |
Author Responsibility
All authors are collectively responsible for the content and originality of the submitted manuscript. If a plagiarism penalty is imposed, all listed authors may be subject to the same editorial action.
If a second case of plagiarism involving the same author or authors is identified, the Editorial Board may impose additional sanctions. Depending on the severity and circumstances, the author or authors may be permanently prohibited from submitting future manuscripts to JTPG.
Self-Plagiarism and Overlapping Publication
This policy also applies to material previously published by the same author or authors. Previously published text, figures, data, or other materials must be clearly identified and properly cited.
- Significant overlap with a manuscript simultaneously submitted to another journal may be treated as a severe plagiarism case.
- Self-plagiarism involving more than one-tenth but less than one-half of the manuscript may be treated as intermediate plagiarism.
- Self-plagiarism limited to the Methods section may be treated as a minor plagiarism case, subject to editorial evaluation.
Reuse of Previously Published Material
Authors who reuse previously published material must clearly identify the original source and obtain permission from the copyright holder when required. Any previously published content used to support or clarify new research findings must be appropriately distinguished from the new contribution.
For manuscripts derived from conference proceedings, authors must disclose the original conference publication, including the name and date of the conference, and obtain permission to republish when required. The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to determine whether such manuscripts provide sufficient additional contribution for publication in JTPG.
Translated and Republished Material
If a manuscript was previously published in another language, the authors must disclose the title, publication date, and original journal or source, and must obtain the necessary copyright permission. The Editorial Board may consider such manuscripts only when appropriate disclosure and permission have been provided.
Any republication approved by the Editorial Board must be clearly identified as such and must properly acknowledge the original publication.
Editorial Monitoring and Sanctions
The Editorial Office is responsible for maintaining records of authors who are subject to sanctions under this policy. If a sanctioned author is identified in a new submission, the Editor-in-Chief will determine the appropriate action in accordance with the applicable penalty period.
This plagiarism policy is made available on the JTPG website and forms part of the journal's publication ethics and manuscript submission requirements.
JTPG is committed to maintaining the originality and integrity of the scientific record. Authors are strongly encouraged to check their manuscripts carefully before submission and ensure that all sources, quotations, data, figures, and previously published materials are properly acknowledged. A similarity index below 25% does not automatically guarantee that a manuscript is free from plagiarism; editorial assessment of the similarity report may still be conducted when necessary.
